The Nation is in a Time of
Crisis
At this present hour, marriage is being redefined, the war
is continuing in Iraq, the threat of terrorism is constantly
around us, and we are facing what could be a critical
election in our nation.
What are we then to do? God's Word teaches us and history
also reveals to us that during such times, God calls his people
together to stand and to pray.
Sound Familiar?
Skyrocketing crime. Illegitimate births. Economic
trouble at home. War abroad. Rampant alcoholism...
today's headlines?
Would you believe the United
States also faced these problems in the 1790's?
Greed. Violent crime. Occultism. Free love.
Corrupt business and government. Atheism...Recent history?
Would you have guessed that
these influences were also destroying families and society
in the 1850's?
We think idealistically of the past history of the United
States, yet moral conditions at times were such that national
leaders openly questioned if the Church could survive, or
if sin wold overwhelm the country. In the 1790's, even
U.S. Chief Justice John Marshall wrote that the Church was
too far gone to ever be redeemed.
Prayer Changes People and Nations
Indeed, during these bleak times in American history, the
Church was dying and society as a result was deteriorating.
But God then called His people to sincere repentance and fervent
prayer, and amazing things soon followed.
Iin 1794, one pastor who was burdened over
the growing darkness began to invite others to prayer.
Soon as many as 25,000 were gathering together for times of
prayer and communion. And what followed was an incredible
time of renewed spiritual life in our nation.
In 1857, one man in New York City who was
grieved over what he was seeing sought out people to pray
with him. Within six months, 10,000
were gathering regularly for prayer, and within two years,
more than one million people came to Christ!
It
is Time to Stand and Pray
Our purpose is to stand and pray:
- For revival in the Church
- For the preservation and restoration of marriage
- For husbands and wives, parents and children
- For family values that glorify God
- For God's wisdom and guidance for the state and federal
governments, political leaders, and the judiciary
- For the upcoming elections
- For the protection and safe return of our armed forces
- For our homeland security
...and much more
