March 10 Pray for Marriage History
When the Massachusetts State Supreme Court ruled in
favor of homosexual marriage
in November of 2003, the decision grabbed national attention
while troubling Christians across the state and country. |

A group of local pastors in Massachusetts who
regularly meet each week for prayer felt especially burdened
by the Supreme Court’s decision. They felt God was calling
the church to do something. They asked their individual congregations
for prayer as they sought God’s leading.
Times of prayer and fasting for the state and its leaders
followed, but a state constitutional convention in February
failed to resolve the issue and was scheduled to reconvene
30 days later. The pastors' prayer group knew God wanted His
church to step out in faith and take a stand for truth and
love.
| They decided to rent out the local civic center for
a night of prayer on March 10 – the night before
Massachusetts’ state legislature was to next meet
on the issue. |

The next three weeks demonstrated the unmistakable work of
God’s hand. Christian churches of every stripe came
together in an unprecedented show of unity; unsolicited donations
covered every cost; and volunteers emerged to manage each
detail of the event.
Each day the event grew in scope and more was required –
but each demand was met with miraculous timing. Every technical
and logistical hurdle was cleared thanks to God’s provision
and on March 10, more than 1,500 Christians gathered at the
civic center to pray.
Reporters came in anticipation of controversy and protest,
but none materialized – they had no choice but to focus
on the event.
| Twenty-one area ministers shared the podium to pray
for the state, the nation, and for God’s perfect
will. Christian radio broadcast the event across New England.

Satellite
uplink allowed Calvary Chapel Boston to join in with five
hundred more congregants. CSN Radio made a simulcast available,
and SkyAngel Television extended the event to its subscribers.
